Tesuque 04:10
I woke up this evening to a coyote lullaby Striking fire from the ashes, and the rafters seared the sky This old house don't belong to me, but the ghosts who live here do I'm happy to report my dreams came back benign In Tesuque The teeth in these rocks need something more to chew Striking treasure underground from the old map that I drew Water flows uphill from here, and the sun runs down my back I'm throwing in the towel, the muses have eyes for you In Tesuque I stacked cairns to mark the spot where I lost track Striking out with all my friends, the lone dog in this pack The crows here burrow in the sand, and the horned toads aim to fly I'm saved, I see the light, now that it's out of whack In Tesuque In Tesuque

Revival 04:45
Going past the sun-scorched corral Where the ravens watch traffic Smoke from the gravel road's thick Through the valley where the mustangs run Unspoken gestures dippin' divin' in A most plain and clearest thought Guitar on my seat and songbook on the dash Joy prevails over judgment at revival Southwest revival, I'm comin' home Your open pastures and cliffs so high Out toward the horizon I go Singin' sweet praise for the desert I try Harmony and wholeness, my church is waiting Heavy on the pedal and the gas tank's hungry Sunrays flicker through the glass, oh yes they do Keep dreamin', west, west I'll arrive Even with others' valiant efforts Southwest revival welcomes my truth A strength within that no one, no one can Never ever, no one can diminish me Southwest revival, I'm comin' home Your open pastures and cliffs so high Out toward the horizon I go Singin' sweet praise for the desert I try Oh southwest revival, I'm comin' home I'm comin' home

Snow dozes on the north faces All along Highway 84 The sun arouses these hills That neon glow is their own I could live in the rearview mirror Pretend that summer still reigns I want a life different here But it's me who's never the same Dog's asleep in the back of the cab I don't know what I'm doing These hills have eyes in their shoulders I think I better keep moving The moon here comes alive in the sky Tapped right into the source Makes me want to drink poetry The heart's irresistible force The only words without rhymes are purple, silver, and orange On all these highways, I've met nobody Who rhymes with you I tried to bring everything I need My boots, my shirts in a sack My dog, my guitar, my old notebook Foam roller for my back I left the shotgun seat empty That way it matches my hand Ghosts live life much different here Their bones bleached in the sand I'm gonna find some roads made of dirt Slow myself way down Take the turn I always blow right by See what's left past that old town Gonna take a cue from that big ol' moon Alive in that big sky Take a thirsty gulp of poetry And give this one more try The only words without rhymes are purple, silver, and orange On all these highways, I've met nobody Who rhymes with you The only words without rhymes are purple, silver, and orange On all these highways, I've met nobody Who rhymes with you

You won't find the way Rushing ain't the key Don't ask for directions, nah This journey's for you to be This land's to wander wild No set place to go Follow the yucca to the sun It's the only way to grow There's no hurry here Slow and take your time Trust me and the vista, oh The best you'll always find My wayward friend The desert will show you how Close your eyes and open your heart The direction is now Crows are watching you Their message, take it all Pay attention and listen close Quiet down and hear their call Skip across the sparkling sand Your lungs take a breath deep There's no hurry here, nah Your mind's free, stop your feet Steps are fragile but strong Taste the juice from the prickly pear Questions are answered here Cairns four feet high up there Feel that around you It's the ticking of the clock Let go of confusion Go up and over the rock My wayward friend The desert will show you how Close your eyes and open your heart The direction is now

Sticks 03:10
When all the world is at your door You do your work, and then there's more No point in letting it get you down Just go outside and throw a stick around Take a trek up the dry wash Bring the dog and get lost That's the surest way to get you found Just take a hike and go thrown a stick around Get your stick stuck in a high tree Find another 'cause stick are free Out here you can be nowhere bound With your best friend just throwing a stick around I don't need no fancy cars I don't have a usual at the bar All I have is all I need My breath, my dog, my stick, and me I don't want no fancy dress No wireless, no cigarettes All I want is to be free My breath, my dog, my stick, and me When the tax man's at your door You pay your bills, and then there's more When pretty flowers turn shit brown Just take a hike and go throw a stick around Everybody wants a piece of you Your friends, your family, politicians too That whole circus don't need this clown Why don't you go and throw a stick around Simple joys are heaven sent And you forget about the rent Heaven on earth is just out of town Get up and go and throw a stick around I don't need no fancy cars I don't have a usual at the bar All I have is all I need My breath, my dog, my stick, and me I don't want no fancy dress No wireless, no cigarettes All I want is to be free My breath, my dog, my stick, and me (Again) My breath, my dog, my stick, and me (One more time) My breath, my dog, my stick, and me

Desert sands holding ground Cactus and the skulls are laying down Sun beats with an intense heat Birds are talking from the tops of trees Do you bring me joy here now? Do you bring me sadness today? What's in this message I hear from you That'll take me to this place, whoa What's your message today my friend? Who's in the wind? Do you say? Is it my family from my past? Are they here with me today? Winds push sands swirling around Ripples appear to the eye with time Small puddles of clear rainwater Allowing time for rest and thirst The sagebrush is singing The birds come to flock The sun, it keeps bringing Time passes with the clock, whoa Traveling through these Southwest towns Others have come before me It's time to quiet my mind and listen Sagebrush it starts to sing, yeah Little yellow birds watch over me Lizards caution with my step I hear the trickle of the brook Up in the sky the storm just passed, yeah The sagebrush is singing The birds come to flock The sun, it keeps bringing Time passes with the clock, whoa Desert sands holding ground Cactus and the skulls are laying down Sun beats with an intense heat Birds are talking from the tops of trees In this place of quiet and calm Come all the lessons to be learned Each breath I take lies within My body heats up to the fire and flame, yeah The sagebrush is singing The birds come to flock The sun, it keeps bringing Time passes with the clock, whoa Yes time Oh time Time passes with the clock, whoa

Wrapped in a blanket Elders lay her to rest Never hearing a first laugh The white man they detest Not only for today But for generations now A people stole their country Untouchable and unfound Surviving on very little Resources are depleted In all those history books Truths have been deleted Honor, love, and respect They see no end in sight Sweet grass and sagebrush The earth hears their plight Riches lead to the white man Animals stay at bay Harshness of their survival Silence on Starvation Lane Father Sky, Mother Earth All directions they know Soaring hawk and the black bear Elders tell stories untold On this land open and wide No street signs but oil rigs Weeping for their skylines Of distant, burned-out twigs No more vast openness They pray to be left alone Sadness, sickness, and wrongness An unfortunate tale to be told Riches lead to the white man Animals stay at bay Harshness of their survival Silence on Starvation Lane

Can't Hide 04:25
These rocks stare back at me, they stare These rocks stare back at me, they stare I feel it in my bones How long these stones Spent breathing their way into the air You can't hide from yourself in the desert No you can't hide from yourself in the desert Stop worrying and hoping Let it crack you wide open To sun on your back in the dirt Time works different here So does the heart You can't rush matters of the earth I just want you to know I still love you so I'm divining what that love is worth You used to gnaw at my mind You used to gnaw at my mind But I learned from these stones To sit back on my bones And see what I can find Time works different here So does the heart You can't rush matters of the earth I just want you to know I still love you so I'm divining what that love is worth These rocks stare back at me, they stare These rocks stare back at me, they stare I feel it in my bones How long these stones Spent breathing their way into the air You can't hide from yourself in the desert No you can't hide from yourself in the desert Stop worrying and hoping Let it crack you wide open To sun on your back in the dirt Time works different here So does the heart You can't rush matters of the earth I just want you to know I still love you so I'm divining what that love is worth Oh I'm divining what that love is worth Oh I'm divining what love is worth You can't hide from yourself in the desert

Desert Honey 05:44
There's too much madness in the world right now We all need someone who can show us how But wishes are deadly when you get what you want Finding the fleece can't match the thrill of the hunt She's the empress lounging on my heart's throne I'd do something about it if I had the cojon Every warm-blooded mammal wants a piece of her soul But no one can claim her, or so I've been told It ain't funny at all Many will fall Few can handle Desert Honey I saw two men saunter out of the saloon One wore white and the other wore blue They dueled for a woman but she shot them both dead Her sweetness can kill you more certain than lead We know more of the moon than the depths of the sea The final frontier is somewhere else you see This woman's heart turns rocks into gold And if she don't want you, you're out in the cold It ain't funny at all Many will fall Few can handle Desert Honey She looks in the mirror to see what she sees Her eyes are enough to make them do what she please She wonders at night if she should change her ways But she is who she is, and her constant is change It ain't funny at all Many will fall Few can handle Desert Honey It ain't funny at all Many will fall Few can handle Desert Honey

Arroyos of waves and tears Trembling cold and traveling down Fresh flash floods of spirit Water away and beyond Red chiles spark and ignite The heat and change comes fast My unsettled underbelly screams The burn on my lips will last Dust swirls like an angry uncle Breathing heat down my neck Whip and smack of time Wind in my hair, it's a wreck These places are fit to be Beauty's all around me Oh my Albuquerque cure You are what I need Yeah you are what I need Like edges of my keys Mountains unlock my mind Sense of nature's peace Warm honey down my spine Cranes are resting proud Bosque river bottom's green Flow of the water is slow Sunset reflections I dream As big as the eye allows New Mexico skies take me Brushstrokes with the clouds A watercolor painting I see These places are fit to be Beauty's all around me Oh my Albuquerque cure You are what I need Yeah you are what I need Oh my Albuquerque cure
